Interested in buying a sauna in Ireland?

Are you looking to install a sauna in your home or business here in Ireland? Being in the industry since 1966, we would like to give you an insight into what it is we recommend you consider before finalizing your decision.

The world of saunas is generally a simple one. You need a well insulated, suitably finished structure in which you can put a source of heat and the rest is all about relaxing. You might think that is easy to achieve however it is not that simple.

When it comes to insulation, you should never us a foil backed product. The reason for this is down to what will happen behind the walls. If your sauna is on for multiple hours per day there is a high chance that the foiled back insulation can burn the timber from behind over time. As a result of this the lifetime of the sheeting will be reduced and a strong smell can be produced ruining your experience while you try to relax. Rockwhool or fibreglass insulation is an ideal application for your home or commercial sauna. Ensure you insulate the walls and roof well, leaving gaps for vents and under the heater to ensure air flow.

When it comes to the internal finish of your sauna you need to choose your timber wisely. The sauna timber we supply and recommend include aspen, alder, spruce and popple – all noted for their ability to deal with the heat, wear and tear along with the little residue that gets released. If you are interested in purchasing a sauna kit, check the quality of the timber used and ensure that the material is a minimum of 12mm thick for walls and roof and 21mm thick for seating areas to ensure a long life. If you are interested in building the sauna yourself here at www.bleisure.com we can supply you with all the materials needed for your home or commercial sauna here in Ireland.

Avoid using any timber known for sap as it gets expelled with the heat, leaving your walls and seating sticky. Another timber type to avoid is one that is known for ‘knots’. The main reason for this is due to the expansion and contraction of the timber while heating and cooling causing these ‘knots’ to fall out over time leaving holes in your home sauna or commercial sauna.

The final step is your heating solution. Here at blackchurch leisure we are the have been the distributors for TYlO, the world leading Swedish sauna and steamroom brand since the 1970’s. We can provide you with all the heating solutions available including an element based sauna heaters, infrared panels or a fire stove.
For internal home use we recommend the tradition element based heaters for fast heating time, high temperatures and easy maintenance. When it comes to the infrared panels we would not recommend them over the traditional heater due to the lower temperature capabilities and general experience they provide. There is one major benefit of infrared panels and that is the instant heat in which they provide – but you need to be sitting in their general facing direction to benefit.
Last but not least is the wood burning stove solution. This is probably the easiest source to integrate if you are building an out door sauna due to there not being any need for an electrical supply. If you have access to a timber supply, willing to top it up regularly and do not mind waiting for your home sauna or commercial sauna to heat up, the wood burning stove is a option to consider.

With the information we have provided above we hope that you have gained a good insight into the do’s and dont’s along with the best route you should take when buying a sauna or building your home or commercial sauna.
